Dedicated to the memory of Antony John Weir

This page has been set up in memory of Antony John (Tony) Weir. Tony was amongst many other relationships a beloved son, brother, and Uncle in our family as well as a true friend and mentor to many in his personal and academic life. Born on 20th August 1971, he was creative and intellectual, with great passions for writing, photography, film and literature. He wrote countless novels and short stories, produced numerous films and plays, and published many thousands of photographs. His photographic work had particular focuses on the urban environments of Coventry and London, and on live music. He also painstakingly curated the Weir Archive of (now historical) photographs from his late grandfather John Weir. Tony settled on a career as a Senior Technician at Coventry University. The sheer number and warmth of tributes from former staff and students have painted a picture of how much he was loved by his peers in this role and how many formative (and not-so-formative) careers his work touched. Tony was however no fan of authority and his subversive world view and sense of humour were hallmarks of his personality. He even very quietly and unassumingly gained himself a PhD in Drama from The University of Exeter - a fantastic achievement which he achieved while working full time. Tony was diagnosed with cancer in October 2022, and was able to enjoy a period of precious time with his friends and family before the very rare and aggressive form of cancer led to a rapid decline in his health. On his wishes, and with the help of his mum and brother, he was moved to Coventry Myton Hospice where he spent his final days, receiving excellent care, before he died on 16th January 2023 aged 51 years. We are encouraging people to make donations to Myton.
